How to Tailor the KPIs to Your Audience

There are two important questions you want to ask when you select the KPIs to include in the dashboard.

The first question is who will be looking at the dashboard.

The second question is what information would be useful to them.

The answers to these two questions determine the KPIs that are relevant to them.

If the dashboard is for the executives, they would want to know whether revenue and profit margin are trending in the right direction. They also want to know whether growth in a region meets expectations.

On that dashboard, you would include the overall revenue and profit margin trends, as well as revenue growth by region.

On the other hand, if the dashboard is for a warehouse manager, she would want to know how quickly orders are filled and accuracy.

In this case, the KPIs to include are order fulfillment time and pick accuracy.

You want to tailor the KPIs to the audience of the dashboard because the information has to be relevant and useful to them. Otherwise, you are wasting your time and effort.
