In a recent conversation with a senior division manager, he shared his thoughts on the dashboards distributed every month. He commented that some dashboards are not useful. No one looks at them. The question then is, why spend time on them?
To verify the usefulness of your KPIs, do an annual survey. Ask:
- What does your team use the KPIs for?
- Which KPIs are useful?
- Which KPIs should be removed or revised?
KPIs serve to inform and guide decisions. Measurement does require effort. Your team captures the data, extracts them, analyzes them, and creates meaningful charts to illustrate the impact.
If the KPIs don’t do the job, replace them with meaningful ones that offer insights.
