When you modify a process, your intent is to improve the status quo. You need to measure the effects of change to assess whether the change is effective.
To measure the effects of change, you need to do two things.
First, determine what it is that you want to improve. The improvement usually relates to speed, quality of work, and cost. Be as specific and as granular as you can.
Second, determine how to gather the data you need to quantify the impacts. When data are not available, look for surrogate data that would represent the impact. Talk to others for ideas on how best to measure the effects of change.
